Thinking about the presentation and artists.

I am going to do a traditional presentation to display my drawings because I think that would be the most efficient way to show my work and talk about it.

Here are two artists that inspired my art:

Igor Lukyanov uses the cross hatching technique which I really like because it looks realistic while somewhat abstract.

I am also inspired by Marco Mazzoni and his work. He draws with color and creates questionable work that has a deep meaning I can’t figure out.

The piece by Jackson Danforth is a drawing of Jay Z. It is very detailed and realistic, and it portrays demension by showing a reflection in his sunglasses.

It made me think about the skill and practice it takes to become that talented of an artist. He did not have a line outlining the face, which is realistic because people do not have lines outlining their face, but most people tend to draw them anyway.

After reading the artist statement and bio I made more connections about why artists choose to make art. He explained that he draws to give back to the artists that he has been inspired by, which I find is an interesting form of motivation. He used many different shades of black and white, which is a tactic I can take when I draw too.

Developing ideas

I finished my last painting so I need to come up with an idea for the next project and I don’t have anything in mind yet. I want it to be something that makes you think about the meaning. This is my painting I just finished

I think that this piece by Ai Weiwei is really cool because it compares a very present day idea to a very old piece of work

Where am I at?

Looking back: I have painted a really cool painting of a tiger where I explored the different inks and watercolor and I thought I wanted to continue making new paintings of animals but then I decided that I wanted to think of my own art. I brainstormed ideas and came up with the idea of a red truck in the center of a page with people in the trunk looking back into the future while driving into the past.

Looking forward: I want to continue working on that piece of art. I want to start painting after I draw it all out.

Takeaways: I have been looking at Christopher Boffoli’s art because I think it is really cool how he compares sizes of objects and leaves the viewer up to interpret his work

Small moments and big ideas

Yesterday, I wrote on my sticky note that I would continue drawing the lion and experiment with water color. I am inspired by this piece of art I found online:

I tried using thick and thin sharpie to create a more dimensional look. I did not directly copy the picture but I practiced drawing curved, ridged lines around his face. I did not draw the eyes because they are the most important so I am waiting for the end. I love using watercolor and blending the yellowish colors. Here are other paintings I want to try painting: I ended up painting the one with the umbrella.

Big art ideas:

  1. Take 100 pictures of all different people around the world and collage them onto a map of the world on top of a picture showing one of their talents or interests and write their name under their picture in the language they speak.
  2. Have 100 people from around the world share their favorite picture they took of either themselves or a place and make a collage
  3. Make a sculpture of a hand reaching for something

Starting points

On my sticky note I wrote that I wanting to talk to Mr. Ingenthron about sketches, which I did not end up doing. I looking for art inspiration and found a watercolor painting I liked so I replicated it. I experiment with yellow ink to make the yellow color pop, and I used different types of watercolors for different parts of the painting. I have not finished the painting but I am excited to and I am really proud of how productive I was. I want to continue water colors with a single color that pops.

Above, is my artwork from yesterday. Below are two pieces I art I found on the website and I picked them because I think it’s amazing how realistic it is.

The first week

Memorable work of art: I think that Molly’s art is really cool because of the way she uses color and collages. She mentioned how she likes color and how she likes to look at art where you have to stop and think, and I can relate.

A technique: Using shapes to spray paint is really interesting because you can make realistic looking artwork by using simple shapes.

Artist: Christofer Boffoli is a really inspiring artist because he uses color and different shapes to make really cool artwork

My group made a collage using newspaper headlines that showed the scary events and issues that are relevant today, and I drew the children in the middle. I helped cut out the newspaper and I drew the child. I also had the idea of the project, but the other people in the grouped helped design it too.

Working Towards an Exhibit

Looking ahead:

  • I need to make sure I am satisfied with the drawing the two girls
  • I need to decide whether I want t use more sharpie on her face because I think that I like only her eyes being dark
  • I also need to decide which drawing I want to display. I know for sure that I want to do the two faces, but I do not know if I want to do other designs because they are not faces. This is the other face I am sure about displaying:

Rubric Process

A few weeks ago I said that I wanted to improve by drawing more precisely and washing my brush before I use another color. I did not mention this in my blog post, but I remember wanting to try drawing other things instead of people.
To work on these categories, I used drawing pencils and I sharpened them so that each shade matched the shade that I needed. I also found blenders that were smaller and could fit into small parts in my drawing to make it more precise. I have not painted since, but I have started to draw a rose, which is as detailed as drawing a face, and I like drawing with detail.
